Commitment on a large scale was demonstrated here. It takes special people to consider the restoration of a listed home and landscape that had not been fully occupied for more than twenty years. Much of the original park is no longer with the house, including the original approach up from the church. However potential new owners, very quickly, fell in love with the available setting. It was not long before we were talking about richness and warmth, discussing the fine ingredients this landscape setting had to offer.
Early in projects like this it is important to appreciate scale. Continuous conversation of how to work with the character of the historic, natural and worked landscape, alongside the personality of the clients, shaped the initial design thoughts. This project illustrates the blend of old with new, from the refurbishment of the house, including the addition of an orangery to link house and garden, with serious land sculpting to re-set the old house on a new orientation. All before setting the house into a series of garden spaces that seamlessly flow into the park all of which overlook the new acre and a quarter lake. A true breath of new life in the next chapter for the park.
