Houses like these are seen all over Norfolk and Suffolk, gentrified by the Georgians. This one twenty odd years ago, sat on a waterlogged lawn to the south with grazing pasture to the west, arable land north and east with a short hop from the road to deliver you to the house, without seeing the house. Discussion with this project began with the extent of change, are we to look at the creation of gardens over the wet lawn or do we also consider how the garden rests in the land and how that land belongs to the wider Norfolk scene. The first impression at The Manor soon came to the discussion table, with lovely views of the house to be considered from the pasture to the west.

The pasture through tree planting, changing the grass species, wild flower, some recontouring and the introduction of more water soon become English parkland. The new approach through the parkland has provided a significantly longer and far more attractive journey. The client brief had requested a garden that has a flower in every day. Detailed and extensive gardens, including the tailor-made summerhouse and conservatory were implemented by highly skilled local contractors. The new life brought to this setting has been enjoyed now by the family for more than two decades and I believe a flower every day for all of that time.
